The Viola outfit is based on dresses worn by the
character
Viola in the movie
Shakespeare in Love. A wonderful example of Elizabethan finery:
the full
skirt is cartridge pleated doupioni silk; the black suede bodice has an
exaggerated stomacher in a coordinating brocade; and the full leather
sleeves have a "puff" of silk at the top and criss-crossed trim. The
front of the skirt features four different trims: coordinating
cordage wrapped with a gold cord; 1 1/4" brocade flat trim;
antique-gold metallic scroll; and an antique-gold French scroll with
coordinating color woven down the center. A 3/4" version of the
brocade trim completes the entire hem of the skirt. The stomacher
is trimmed with both the cordage and antique-gold metallic scroll.
The trim sewn to the sleeves is the antique-gold French
scroll and the cuffs have the 1 1/2" brocade trim and are finished
off with the cordage. The bodice laces in back. The sleeves
are removable.The skirt is sewn to a fitted waistband.
